Add Wireless Charging To iPhone 6s Or iPhone 6s Plus Right Now, Here’s How

Now that we are squarely in the arena of iPhone rumors that just won’t go away, the current buzz on the street is that Apple is working on true wireless charging technology for 2017 iPhone that will work from a distance and will apparently put the current incarnation to shame.

Qi-powered wireless charging is nothing new to those carrying certain Android devices around with them, and it’s surprisingly useful if you have something that can take advantage of it. The idea of wireless charging finally coming to the iPhone is a good one. But that means buying a whole new iPhone, and that’s assuming the rumors are true and a new iPhone with wireless charging capabilities is on the horizon. Even if it is, that horizon might still be some way off. Surely, there’s a better way to try and get some of that wireless love right now.

Well yes, seeing as you bring it up, there is. There have been various wireless charging solutions available for iPhones that while far from officially sanctioned by Apple, do indeed work with Apple’s devices.

As mentioned earlier, the standard for wireless charging these days is called Qi, and it’s exactly what the likes of Samsung use in their wireless charging-equipped hardware. There are numerous Qi-compatible charging pads available for reasonable prices. Where things get interesting is the part that plugs into your iPhone.

That’s taken care of by what amounts to a Lightning ribbon cable attached to a Qi-compatible receiver. The idea is to plug the Lightning ribbon cable into an iPhone’s charging port and then wrap that ribbon around the bottom of the iPhone and place the receiver on its back. If you have the right iPhone case, you can even continue using it because the Qi charging magic is strong enough to go through it.

The whole thing is much more elegant if you can indeed use a case, because it hides the whole thing apart from a small ribbon cable at the bottom.

We’ve tried a couple of these wireless charging solutions and they do indeed work, though the rate of charging is significantly slower than using a standard Lightning cable. But that is due to the technical limitation of current Qi-wireless charging standard than anything else.

If you really must have wireless charging on your iPhone today, you could get compatible accessories from Amazon. Here are the recommended ones for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus that you can get for affordable prices. These should even work with iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
