Apple might have only just given the MacBook Air a new lease of life with an M1 chip, but that isn’t the end of the story. According to a new report we can expect to see Apple announce another new MacBook Air as soon as the first half of next year — and it’s going to sport a new M2 chip.
Shared by leaker Dylandkt on Twitter, the new MacBook Air will come with an M2 processor rather than an M1X because that’s the chip that is being reserved for Apple’s Pro devices.
The chip, Dylandkt says, will live in a newly redesigned MacBook Air that will come in multiple colors. That’s something that we’ve seen rumored before, with leaker Jon Prosser sharing renders of what he’s been told the new MacBook Air notebooks will look like.
That new look will mean multiple colors, a white keyboard, and a new squared-off design that will do away with the famous MacBook Air tapered design that we’re accustomed to. All of that will house an M2 chip that will surely be quite a bit quicker than the current M1 chip Apple is using today.
That’s particularly exciting given just how speedy that particular processor has already proven to be.
For now though, we wait. Apple is rumored to have new iPads and Macs lined up for launch before the end of the year. Those machines might not be this MacBook Air, but it’ll be interesting to see if anything ships with the M1X and if so, what it offers.
