Anyone who looked at the price of the impressive Apple Vision Pro headset and wished it was just a bit cheaper might be in luck, but only if they’re willing to wait until 2025 to pick one up.
That’s because Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman reports that Apple is hard at work building a new, cheaper version of the headset that will launch in the future.
However, that launch isn’t expected to happen until 2025 at the earliest. And even then, it’ll be late 2025.
However, Gurman doesn’t believe that the cheaper version of the headset will replace the current, high-end one. Instead, it looks likely that Apple will ship Pro and non-Pro versions of the headset in the future.
Apple is currently planning a release of the cheaper model for as early as the end of 2025, meaning it won’t debut for about two years after the original Vision Pro. At the same time, Apple is already working on a second-generation Vision Pro with a faster processor, indicating it’s intent on a two-product strategy for the device in line with the standard iPhone and iPhone Pro models.
Gurman doesn’t expect Apple to remove the externally-facing EyeSight display or the hand and eye tracking to hit a cheaper price point, but lower-quality internal displays and a cheaper headband setup could allow Apple to save some money over the main Vision Pro headset.
Apple’s current Vision Pro headset isn’t expected to ship to the public until early 2024.
