Apple’s first iPhones went on sale for $599 in 2007 if you bought the 8GB version — even cheaper if you went for just 4GB — but one just sold for a whopping $39,339.60, 15 years later.
The original iPhone, sold via LCG Auctions, wasn’t just old but also sealed, meaning this is a real collector’s item.
This iPhone has never been unboxed, let alone powered on, making for quite the purchase.
This factory sealed, first-release example is in exceptional condition. Virtually flawless along the surface and edges, the factory seal is clean with correct seam details and tightness. Labels on the reverse are correctly pristine beneath the seal. All original – no aftermarket stickers or UPC labels on this one. Brand new, never activated.
Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple at the time, unveiled the first iPhone in a presentation that has since gone down in history. We’ve seen plenty of new iPhones come and go since then, but the original one is still the one that started it all off. We’re not sure that we would pay almost $40,000 to get our hands on this thing, but there is no doubting its importance to the world. There were smartphones before the iPhone, but the market changed irrevocably after it arrived.
Missed out on this iPhone? Don’t worry, you can buy a brand new iPhone 14 and pay a fraction of the price this thing sold for. And you can even unbox and use it, too.
