Any regular reader of Redmond Pie will know that we cover a lot of different tweaks for jailbroken devices. Regardless of whether the package is intended for the iPhone, iPod touch, iPad or even all three, if it’s useful and could benefit our readers then we’ll give it the once over. With that said, it’s always great to find and test a tweak that makes us want to keep using it after the review, which is something we think we might have found with the RaiseToCall package.
RaiseToCall is actually quite a simple little package, but one that majority of users would benefit from at one time or another – even if they don’t actually realize it. When installed, it brings the ability to simply raise the device to the user’s ear within a text messaging conversation stream to immediately invoke an outgoing phone call to that person. Sick of scrolling through what seems like an endless conversation to get to the ‘Call’ button at the top of the chat? Sick of leaving the app to go into the contact details to ring that person? Now we don’t need to suffer.
In all seriousness, it is actually a great and very handy little utility that takes a specific aspect of iOS and extends it to make it a little bit more intuitive. Having the Call button at the top of the conversation stream is definitely worth having. Having the Contact option in the same location definitely has its benefits. But being able to bypass those two aspects and quickly invoke a phone call with minimal fuss is undoubtedly a benefit.
It also helps that the tweak falls under the category of being extremely simple, with no fuss needed to get up and running with it. Locate the package in Cydia, install the package and begin using. It really is as simple as that. There will undoubtedly be questions about whether or not the package is worth $1.99 when so many other extremely capable offerings are available for around the $0.99 mark, but that really comes down to the potential user’s perceived value and if it will be of use to them. We certainly think it is.
RaiseToCall is available as a $1.99 download from the BigBoss repository and requires a jailbroken iPhone with iOS 6.0 or above installed.
