In a headline the senior execs over at Apple could only dream of, Google’s special Android event scheduled to be held in New York City this coming Monday has been cancelled due to the threat of an impending hurricane. According to a report over at The Verge, Hurricane Sandy is looming, and as such, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency in response to the incoming storm, and Google’s event was set to take place on a waterfront pier, which is now in an evacuation zone yesterday.
Hurricane Sandy won’t, however, affect Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 event in San Francisco, so we’ll still be providing extensive coverage of the Redmond-based software maker’s big Windows Phone 8 showcasing. With Microsoft’s keynote ensuring all is not lost for technology fans, we’re certainly pretty stoked about the prospect of finally being able to get our hands on a WP8 device, and I’m sure you guys are too.
Obviously, it’s not great news if you’re a fan of Android, but I’m sure the delay won’t have any lasting repercussions on the upcoming deluge of Nexus devices. As well as the Nexus 10 tablet revealed in its entirety a couple of days ago, there’ll also be a 32GB Nexus 7, an LG-manufactured Nexus 4, and of course, Android 4.2.
Given the success of Android Jelly Bean 4.1 and its "buttery smooth" operation, consumers will be looking for more of the same from its successor. Android always struggled to compete with main rival – iOS – in terms of smoothness of operation, but with the big G declaring "all-out war" on lag, the Mountain View-based company finally seemed to get things right.
It’s as-yet unknown when the event will be rescheduled for, but with Microsoft clearly about to capitalize on Hurricane Sandy’s path of destruction, one would suspect Google won’t be leaving it too long before revealing some of its most recent products to the on looking technology world.
Personally, I cannot wait to see the Nexus 10 tablet as I think it’ll make a similar impact to the Nexus 7, but obviously be of the size to entice those who prefer a "regular"-sized tablet.
