Apple is all set to reveal a smaller iPad later today at their event in California Theatre in San Jose,CA, but we’ve come across news related to the next-generation “iPad 4”. The image shows leaked components which give us a rough idea of some of the features to expect from the next big tablet from Apple. You can check them out after the jump.
The news come from the folks over at BGR in the form of two images which claim to show two of the next big iPad’s most important components: its front-facing camera and the display.
As you can see below, the hole for the FaceTime camera on the front panel marked as “iPad 4” appears to be slightly larger than the iPad 3’s hole. This strongly suggests that the FaceTime camera in the iPad 4 will finally be of a higher resolution to match the super high resolution of its Retina display.
BGR claims that this FaceTime HD camera will be the same as the 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera on the iPhone 5 which, from the reviews we’ve read online, is a significant improvement over the previous VGA-quality FaceTime camera.
But that’s not all. Another photo shows the difference in the displays of the iPad 3 and iPad 4. The new “optically bonded” display on the iPad 4 will result in an overall better viewing experience thanks to reduced glare. The resolution will remain the same, of course, at 2048 x 1536 which is still unmatched in the tablet market.
We expect the next 9.7-inch iPad to be announced in the same February-March window as last year.
What’s more important right now, however, is the smaller iPad that Apple is set to announce at the event in a few hours from now. As a smaller iPad 2 (dual-core A5 chip, 1024 x 768 display, weak cameras), it will be directly competing against Google’s Nexus 7 and Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD in the small but powerful, well-designed but cheaply priced tablet market that is quickly expanding these days.
