We’ve discussed and shown you plenty of prototype iPhones and iPads from 2006 and earlier here at Redmond Pie recently. These design documents have made their way onto the web thanks to the aggressive Apple vs. Samsung lawsuit that started yesterday; both companies are forced to reveal classified information about their already released or upcoming products in order help the Court make a just decision.
Now, we’ve come across an all new piece of information regarding an unreleased product from Samsung. Check it out after the jump.
The news of the product comes from TheVerge in the form of a short post in which they discuss a new product from Samsung that has been revealed as a result of the lawsuit. The documents that reached The Verge mentions a Wi-Fi + LTE tablet codenamed P10 that has an 11.8” 16:10 display with a screen resolution of 2560 x 1600 (WQXGA).
WQXGA on an 11.8” display puts the pixel density at 256 pixels per inch (ppi) which is nearly the same as the new iPad’s 264ppi; it can, then, be called a “Retina display”-level display.
It is hardly a surprise considering how Samsung is among the biggest suppliers and manufacturers of display technology. As a matter of fact, Samsung is among the companies that actually manufacture the 2048 x 1536 Retina Display of the new iPad. It was, then, only a matter of time before Samsung starting making their own higher-than-Full-HD resolution displays for tablets.
No other juicy information is given about the P10 tablet, except that it is supposed to come out in 2012. Samsung has promised of a “major announcement and unveiling of the newest Galaxy device” at an August 15th media event; could this P10 tablet be the newest Galaxy device – the Galaxy Tab 11.8?
We won’t know for sure until more information gets leaked or made official. In any case, the Galaxy Tab 11.8 will be a sight to behold. A 12” display with a resolution normally used by 27” monitors (like the iMac, for example) will a sight to behold.
As the Apple vs. Samsung lawsuit gets hotter and hotter, more and more classified information is sure to pop up, so stay tuned to Redmond Pie!
