With every passing day we are getting closer and closer to an eventual announcement and release of the next-generation iPhone. With the iPhone 4S being released in October of last year and the traditional Worldwide Developers Conference release date already passed, it looks likely that we can expect a similar launch time for Apple’s next iPhone. Although I still expect an October announcement, there are some outlets adamant that we will see some activity during the month of September, but that obviously remains to be seen.
As part of the new iPhone announcement and launch, we will also see the public outing of the next major release of iOS, taking the company’s mobile operating system to version 6.0. Since the original announcement at this year’s WWDC in June, Apple has already pushed out three betas of iOS 6 to registered developers, giving them a chance to not only test their existing apps for compatibility but also investigate the new APIs and report any bugs which they may find. As we should all know, the bug reporting part of beta software is a vital part of the process and ensures that when launch time actually comes around, we all get the best possible product.
As part of the continued improving process, Apple has officially released the next step in the development of iOS 6 by making the fourth beta of the software available to all registered developers. As always, the update is available through the developers member center and can only be officially accessed by those who have a registered Apple ID connected to a paid development account. In addition to the method of accessing the beta via iTunes Connect, those who already have the beta installed on their test devices should be starting to receive a notification that an over-the-air update is available.
Considering that the fourth beta is upon us and the clock is ticking on a possible release date, Apple will be hoping that each release to developers will bring with it a more stable and noticeably enjoyable iOS 6 experience. With iOS containing some substantial upgrades for the 6.0 release, with one of them being the inclusion of a whole new 3D-enabled mapping system, the Cupertino technology giants definitely have their work cut out for them to ensure that everything is in perfect shape to compliment their new hardware when the release date eventually hits us.
