The eyes of the smartphone adoring world may all be focusing on Samsung’s new and shiny Galaxy S III handset, but that hasn’t stopped the original Galaxy S model and its successor the S II flying off the shelves quietly in the background. There is no doubt that the Galaxy S III will prove to be an extremely popular device, it has even knocked the iPhone 4S off the most popular spot in Britain only two days after being launched, but the figures released by Samsung show that their earlier models are also producing good numbers.
Although the current generation Galaxy S device will continue to be snapped up by tech fans in the coming weeks and months, it is worthwhile remembering the bloodline of these Samsung models, with the fact that the Korean company have announced cumulative sales of over 50 million units, showing that the Galaxy S III is coming from good stock. The extremely successful Galaxy S II device is responsible for making up the largest part of that total, with Samsung announcing that it has shipped over 28 million units in a little over a year.
The original Galaxy S device entered into the market in 2010 and although its older brother has proved the victor when it comes to total sales, that smartphone has still managed to knock up 24 million sales through a variety of channels, impressive statistics indeed. It was only seven months ago that sales of the two devices were hovering around the 30 million mark, with that figure being dramatically added in the proceeding months with 8 million, out of which the 28 million total being added in the last four months alone.
Samsung’s monstrous Galaxy Note device has also managed to accrue some pretty decent sales figures since its launch, with the company letting the world know through a press release that it has found its way into the hands of over seven million owners. After coming in for a fair portion of ridicule due to its gigantic size and the almost-laughable advertising campaign that launched it, the device has managed to shift a steady 1 million units per month since launch.
With the company pulling in these kinds of sales figures for their top-end smartphones, it isn’t difficult to see why they sit at the top of the vendors pile. Although the Galaxy S III has breached record pre-sales and shot to the top of the popularity charts in certain European countries, it will be interesting to see how many units the device ships over the next 12 months.
