Some detective work by a popular online gaming blog has turned up some potential evidence that a new Avalanche game, Just Cause 3, is on for a release alongside Microsoft’s next Xbox console, with a PlayStation 4 versions also to begin development.
When it comes to pointers that new games are on the horizon, job postings are never the best indicator that something is indeed on the cards. According to Eurogamer, an email advertising a recruitment event that Just Cause maker Avalanche will attend, is now pointing towards the fact that indeed, the third installment of the popular sleeper hit is actually set to be made sooner rather than later.
Interestingly the same web site also believes that the unannounced game will not be developed for the current crop of game consoles, but rather it will be one of the first games to be released on the next generation of machines. With Microsoft’s new Xbox believed by some to be on course for a release next year, and Sony’s PlayStation 4 to come after that, the timescales would tie in surprisingly well.
Of course, all of this is being concluded based on an email received by Eurogamer which advertises a recruitment event that is planned to take place at The Crowne Plaza Baltimore North Hotel on Wednesday 30th May. With Avalanche penciled in to be in attendance and a new “ground breaking action title” being mentioned, Eurogamer believes that Just Cause 3 is indeed coming to the next generation machines. Both Just Cause and Just Cause 2 were made in conjunction with Square Enix, so a partnership between the two companies for the third installment is expected, too.
To add a little fuel to the fire, it is worth bearing in mind that Avalanche boss Christofer Sundberg has previously told the same publication that the Just Cause IP is perfect for the forthcoming generation of home game consoles.
The Just Cause series of games has proven to be hugely popular amongst a certain subset of gamers, with its blend of open world roaming and mission-based gameplay resulting in the game achievement something of a cult status.
With the next Xbox and PlayStation 4 reportedly to drop in the coming years, we really can’t take the wait any longer, either it’s now or never!
