New discoveries suggest that iOS 6 could be shown off at WWDC, with a beta iCloud web portal potentially giving away the secrets of the developer get-together that kicks off next month.
With WWDC just a few short weeks away, everyone is speculating about what will come out of the conference that is put on annually in order to give updates classes to those that will be creating applications for the Mac and iOS platforms over the coming twelve months. With WWDC also comes the expectations of new apps and a fresh iOS beta to boot. If reports are correct, we are also in for a couple of new web apps, too.
Developer Steven Troughton-Smith was the first to notice a beta web portal for iCloud which appears to show web apps for both Reminders and Notes, two things which do not exist just yet even though apps and cross-platform syncing already exist – or at least they will once Mountain Lion ships to customers.
Perhaps of most interest to many, including us, is the news that the beta release of iOS 6 is almost guaranteed to be on the horizon.
After a spot of digging, it was also discovered that the beta iCloud web site will require iOS 6, at least in beta form, in order to be usable.
According to code discovered by 9to5Mac, users will need "to use beta.icloud.com, first sign in to iCloud with the iOS 6 Beta."
Each year’s WWDC tends to be accompanied by a new beta release of major new version of iOS. This time around, iOS 6, is set to be the release that we are all clamoring in order to test out whatever shiny new features have found their way on to the iPhone and iPad.
While we don’t quite know what will be the big new features for iOS 6 just yet, the current rumors surround a reduction in the reliance on Google for Search and Maps. If Apple does indeed decide to move away from Google’s highly successful Maps feature, and potentially makes something other than Google search the default search feature in iOS, relations between the two tech giants could be strained yet further.
