SwipeDock For iOS Lets You Dismiss The Dock To Make Room For An Extra Row Of App Icons

Some of the most popular tweaks which reside within the Cydia store happen to be packages that provide a little extra novelty, or fun little additions to the experience that comes with, when using an iOS device. One of the latest tweaks that has landed in Cydia comes from the developer named Cykey and goes by the name of SwipeDock.

SwipeDock is essentially a tweak that allows users to dismiss the collection of docked items that live on the bottom of the device’s display to free up some additional room to add another row of app icons. It may seem like a very straightforward addition to the device, but SwipeDock also brings with it some very nice animations which the user can choose from when the dock dismiss feature is invoked.

The tweak can be invoked by a simple downwards swiping gesture on the app icons. Depending on which animation has been set through the tweak’s settings panel, the docked section of the device will then animate out of view; leaving a free area at the bottom of the display for additional icons or folders. The tweak is also compatible with the Activator gesture headers, allowing users to change the method through which SwipeDock is invoked.

One of the best things about this tweak is the fact that it actually comes with the compatibility for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad running iOS 4 or above, meaning it is available for a wide array of devices with support for recent versions of iOS as well. Whether or not the tweak could be considered essential is an entirely different story. By using it, you are essentially replacing a row of icons to make room for another row of icons, which seems like a fruitless task, unless you like to pay for the animation.

SwipeDock is available on the BigBoss repository at a cost of $0.99 and requires a jailbroken iOS device running iOS 4 or above.

Of course, you will need to jailbreak your device to install this tweak. For jailbreaking the latest iOS 5.1 (tethered), follow the instructions posted here to jailbreak using Redsn0w, or here for Sn0wbreeze. For jailbreaking iPhone 4S and iPad 2, you can simply follow our step by step tutorial posted here to jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 using Absinthe on Windows or Mac. Those of you with an iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad 1, and iPod touches can use Redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze to untether jailbreak on iOS 5.0.1.
