We’ve been hearing a lot about the upcoming Apple TV+ F1 movie for months now, and it’s finally getting closer to being released for streaming.
Now, Apple TV+ has shared a trailer for the Brad Pitt movie that’s also directed by Joseph Kosinksi, the director of Top Gun: Maverick.
The new trailer comes after a teaser that was shown previously while Apple also ran a Super Bowl ad. However, this is our first proper look at the movie that will debut on June 27.
Dubbed “the greatest that never was,” Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) was Formula 1’s most promising phenom of the 1990s until an accident on the track nearly ended his career. Thirty years later, he’s a nomadic racer-for-hire when he’s approached by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), owner of a struggling F1® team that is on the verge of collapse. Ruben convinces Sonny to come back to Formula 1 for one last shot at saving the team and being the best in the world. He’ll drive alongside Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), the team’s hotshot rookie intent on setting his own pace. But as the engines roar, Sonny’s past catches up with him and he finds that in F1®, your teammate is your fiercest competition—and the road to redemption is not something you can travel alone.
Notably, that June 27 release is a theatrical one, with the movie then expected to be released for streaming at home afterward. It’s not yet been confirmed when that will happen, unfortunately.
This might also not be the last time we see any kind of motor racing on Apple TV+. The streamer has previously been thought to be in the running to offer streaming rights for F1 racing, but nothing has been signed or announced so far.
