Tesla has just made 2025 Model Y refresh official. This announcement comes a few hours after the first properly leaked photos of the car appeared online earlier today.
It is important to note that Tesla has initially launched this version of Model Y only in China, Australia and some other Asia-Pacific countries for now, with full worldwide and North American launch to come soon after this initial launch.
The refreshed Model Y, codenamed Juniper during its development cycle, sports an all-new design both inside and out.
As can be seen from the images, the front-end of the Model Y refresh features a Cybercab/Cybertruck-inspired “light bar” instead of the conventional-looking headlights. Additionally, it has been narrowed to eliminate the lip bump at the front of the hood.
As for rear, like on Cybertruck, Tesla has abandoned the conventional tail lights in favor of a single light that spans the rear of the car, concealed beneath a small protrusion in the hatch. Tesla asserts that this “cross-car lamp” marks the “first indirect reflective body panel taillight of its kind.”
When it comes to interior, it looks a lot like the revamp we saw with Model 3 refresh complete with interior ambient lights, but with a strange addition of turn signal stalk which is a weird decision at this point because none of Tesla’s other cars (Model 3, Model S, Model X and Cybertruck) sports the signal stalk in their latest iteration.
The Model Y also incorporates other interior enhancements similar to those found in the Model 3, such as a rear seat screen for passengers sitting at the back. Notably, the Cybertruck and Model 3 refresh also features this screen alongside Model S and Model X.
Tesla is offering a limited time “Launch” series version of the new Model Y in China, which includes “Launch” badging in various parts of the vehicle.
Tesla’s site claims the new Model Y with 19-inch wheels can achieve 719km (446mi) in Long-range AWD spec, though this is based on CLTC estimates. The previous highest-range spec had 688km CLTC range, a 20-mile improvement.
Tesla has improved acceleration in the new Model Y as well, with the large-battery AWD Model Y now reaching 0-100km/h (0-62mph) in 4.3 seconds, down from 4.9. The RWD version takes 5.9 seconds. These times are slightly shorter for 0-60 mph due to the extra 2 mph. Performance version of the new Model Y is expected to come later, just like how they did with Model 3 Highland.
Tesla’s configurator states that the specific delivery date will vary depending on the configuration, pick-up location, and other factors, while the first deliveries are scheduled for March in China, subject to regulatory approval.
