If a new report is anything to go by, Apple is preparing for MacBook Pro with OLED displays but it still seems further away from release than initially anticipated.
Taiwanese research firm TrendForce is reporting that Apple has asked its display suppliers to start preparing for laptop-sized OLED displays ahead of expected launch between 2026 to 2027. The report also states that LG and Samsung are likely to be Apple’s primary suppliers of OLED displays for the aforementioned OLED MacBook Pro.
For those of you who don’t know, Apple recently refreshed MacBook Pro line with M4 chips, making them the best in-class laptops for professional use. Recently, another report cited sources which claim that Apple won’t be making any changes in MacBook Pro line even in 2025, with only M5 spec bump being the rumored upgrade coming to those MacBooks next year.
So if you have been waiting for next-gen MacBook Pro models with a redesign, you will be waiting for a while as that is not expected to arrive until these OLED models come into fruition.
Compared to the current MacBook Pro models equipped with mini-LED screens, OLED technology offers several advantages. These include enhanced brightness, a higher contrast ratio resulting in deeper blacks, improved power efficiency leading to extended battery life, and more.
Additionally, the transition to OLED displays could pave the way for future MacBook Pro models to adopt a thinner design as well. But of course, this isn’t expected to happen until 2026 or 2027.
