iOS 18.2 Brings New Safari Live Activity And Dynamic Island Enhancements

With iOS 18.2 beta, Apple has added a new Safari Live Activity that lets you track file downloads directly on your iPhone’s Lock Screen or Dynamic Island.

Discovered by tech enthusiast Rishi Agrawal, this new feature kicks in whenever you download a file in Safari.

With this Live Activity, you can see how your download is progressing without needing to open Safari again, which is especially helpful for larger files or slower connections.

Live Activities have been around for about two years now, but it’s only recently that they’ve started to feel like a core part of the iOS experience. Apple keeps finding ways to make them more practical, and this new Safari download tracker is a great example. Recently, Apple added a Live Activity to help users keep up with election results via Apple News as well.

iOS 18.2 also brings another small but handy tweak: updates to Vehicle Motion Cues. Now, instead of a big pop-up, you’ll see these cues on the Dynamic Island—another smart way Apple is integrating information subtly and usefully.

While not groundbreaking, these updates make everyday tasks smoother and add a touch of convenience to using your iPhone.
