Apple Working On Dedicated Gaming App For iPhone

If a new report is anything to go by, Apple is working on a dedicated gaming app for iPhone which will be like App Store, but just for games.

The report, which comes from 9to5Mac, states that this gaming app will basically combine gaming content from App Store, Apple Arcade and Game Center, all into one place so that gamers have one central location to easily access all of their gaming needs.

The report also describes how this so called gaming app will be designed, with a “Play Now” tab featuring gaming content and suggestions, and another Game Center tab which lets gamers track progress, achievements and leaderboards.

Both the App Store and Apple Arcade games will be offered via this all-new gaming app, and it’s also expected that FaceTime and iMessage will be integrated into it for remote gaming and communication purposes with other gamers and friends.

In practice, the app would work like the Xbox app for iPhone, where players can see their status, friends’ activities, search for new games and check their game library. Presumably, Apple wants to make its devices more appealing to gamers with the new app.

There’s no word yet on when Apple will bring such an app for iPhone and iPad users, but if history is anything to go by, such a major feature is likely to be made available as part of a major annual release like iOS 19 rather than a mid-cycle release like iOS 18.5.
