iPhone 17 And iPhone 17 Air Rumored To Gain 120Hz ProMotion Support

The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models might have only been on sale for a matter of hours, but the rumors for the upcoming iPHone 17 models show no sign of slowing down.

The latest report claims that the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will both gain a new 120Hz ProMotion display similar to that of the current Pro and Pro Max models.

According to Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants, speaking with MacRumors, the iPhone 17 and rumored iPhone 17 Air will both sport ProMotion. That’s a feature that has so far been limited to Apple’s Pro and Pro Max models, and this would be the first time that the standard models have gained the same feature. The 120Hz refresh rate would allow for smoother scrolling, among other things.

Another feature that ProMotion would allow is for an always-on display to be added to the mix, another feature that has so far been limited to the Pro and Pro Max iPhones.

The feature would be possible thanks to the variable refresh rate of the ProMotion displays, although it remains to be seen if the new models will support 1Hz or 10Hz low-end refresh rates. The former would be needed for the always-on display.

Young has so far proven reliable when predicting future Apple products based on their display technologies. However, it’s worth noting that the iPhone 17 lineup is still a year from launch and that Apple’s plans could change between now and then.
