The Epic Games App Marketplace Is Now Closer To Launch After Apple Finally Approved It

Apple has finally approved the Epic Games app marketplace for distribution to iPhones in the EU after being previously accused of deliberately delaying its launch.

Epic Games had said on Friday that Apple had twice rejected its submission over similarities between the new marketplace and the Apple App Store with Epic taking to the X social network to complain.

Apple has rejected our Epic Games Store notarization submission twice now, claiming the design and position of Epic’s “Install” button is too similar to Apple’s “Get” button and that our “In-app purchases” label is too similar to the App Store’s “In-App Purchases” label.

Epic Games now says that the marketplace will be ready to launch within the next couple of months after Apple finally approved it. Apple, for its part, says that the earlier rejections had nothing to do with the falling out between the two companies over the Fortnite game.

Epic’s Fortnite was banned from the App Store years ago after Epic bypassed the App Store’s in-app payment system. The two companies have been locked in legal battles ever since.

Epic is just one of the companies that complained about the way Apple manages the iPhone’s App Store. Those complaints ultimately helped the European Commission make the decision to launch the Digital Markets Act’s requirement for Apple to allow third-party app stores on the iPhone.
