Apple has already announced that thanks to a partnership with Open AI, Siri in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15, can access ChatGPT. But it appears this could expand to more AI models.
MacRumors is reporting that following the WWDC keynote, Craig Federighi said that the Apple Intelligence suite is likely to feature additional AI models giving users more choice and freedom.
Not surprisingly, Google Gemini is one option that Federighi thinks could be a part of Apple Intelligence down the road.
We think ultimately people are going to have a preference for certain models they want to use, maybe one that’s great for creative writing or one that they prefer for coding,” said Federighi. “Maybe Google Gemini in the future. I mean, nothing to announce right now, but that’s our direction.
While AI integrations into phones is pretty exciting for the casual user, it has its own security risks, and Elon Musk has not shied away from calling out the iPhone for just that, going as far as saying that iPhones with integrated AI could be banned in all his offices.
Apple Intelligence is yet to make an appearance as its not included in the first iOS 18 beta, but the ball is rolling.
