Install macOS Sonoma On Unsupported Mac Using OpenCore, Here’s How

Here’s how you can install macOS Sonoma on an unsupported Mac using OpenCore the easy way.

Every year Apple releases a big new version of macOS, and 2023 is no different. And like every other year, there are some Macs that just can’t run it.

It’s the same with this year’s macOS Sonoma release but there are ways and means to get the update on an unsupported Mac. Here’s how.

This macOS Sonoma update includes a number of improvements that you might want to take for a spin, not least the ability to add widgets to the Desktop for the first time.

There’s even support for iPhone widgets, but the macOS Sonoma update is about more than that. There are new features and improvements across the board including the apps you use most like Safari and Messages.

With that in mind, you’re going to want to try it, and OpenCore is the answer. It’s a tool that allows you to install macOS Sonoma on 83 different Macs that wouldn’t normally work, including the 2008 MacBooks, the 2009 MacBook Airs, and many more. You can even install macOS Sonoma on an old Xserve if you really must!

You can learn more about OpenCore 1.0.0 release with Sonoma support and how to get it up and running over on the developers’ GitHub page right now and we suggest doing that if you’ve been left in the lurch this year. Just remember that this isn’t officially supported by Apple so there might be some wonkiness here and there.
