The Tesla Cybertruck is finally getting closer to being available for people to actually buy after it was first announced four years ago.
But there is bad news for those who want to pick one up with the company now warning potential buyers that they should expect a price to be almost double the original $40,000 CEO Elon Musk told people to expect to pay.
The news comes after Tesla reportedly started to tell some high-profile customers that they should expect a launch event in around four weeks. Those same customers were then told to expect a price of around $75,000 when the electric truck finally goes on sale.
However, it isn’t clear what trim level that will be. We’d have expected Tesla to share details on the base trim level, however, so it’s possible these prices could soon go even higher. However, NotebookCheck suspects that there might still be a lower-priced version to come.
This Cybertruck price is way above the US$40,000 that Elon Musk teased when announcing Tesla’s first electric pickup almost four years ago, or even above the US$60,000 starting tag that analysts are now forecasting. The first Cybertruck deliveries, however, are going to industry influencers, and they will reportedly all get premium AWD trims, so at a later date when Tesla releases a RWD Cybertruck option it could be priced much lower still.
At this point, it still isn’t clear when most people will be able to buy their new Tesla Cybertrucks, of course. These high-profile customers were always likely to get their trucks first, but that’s obviously of no help to everyone else who just want to give Tesla their money for a new truck.
