Tesla Says V4 Superchargers Will Offer 115 Miles On Just A 5-Minute Charge

Tesla has confirmed that its V4 Superchargers will be capable of offering up to 350kW, an improvement over the current limitation of 250kW which is the same as the V3 models that came before them.

The upgrade was confirmed when Tesla filed for planning permission for a charging site in Swindon, UK. That application says that “All charging units are universal and can be used by an EV user.”

As NotATeslaApp notes, the upgrade to 350kW could mean Teslas will charge at up to 1,400 miles per hour. That equates to 115 miles of battery in just five minutes. However, it’s worth noting that the ultra-fast speeds won’t be maintained all the way to a full battery.

To achieve the full 350kW speed, your battery will need to be pre-conditioned and at a low state of charge. For Teslas, this is between about 5 to 30 percent. If those criteria are met, your vehicle will ramp up to its maximum charging speed for a short period of time.

Once the battery starts to reach capacity it will slow down in an attempt to protect the battery itself. That’s something that other battery-powered devices already do including phones and laptops.

The world’s first V4 Supercharger opened in the Netherlands earlier this year and has 16 stalls.
