Polestar Is Switching To Tesla’s NACS Charger And Supercharging Network

Swedish electric vehicle outfit Polestar has announced that it is switching to the North American Charging Standard charging port, also known as NACS. Polestar also confirmed that it has signed a deal with Tesla that will see Polestar owners charge their vehicles at Tesla’s Superchargers.

The deal means that NACS will come as standard with all Polestar vehicles old in North America starting in 2025.

Owners of older Polestars will also be able to charge their vehicles at Superchargers thanks to an adapter that will be ready in the middle of 2024, Polestar confirmed.

“We salute the pioneering work Tesla has done to speed up the adoption and increase the popularity of electric vehicles, and it’s great to see the Supercharger network being made available in this way,” said CEO Thomas Ingenlath. “This move will greatly increase the rate of EV adoption in a key automotive region.”

Polestar is of course just the latest to follow the pattern of supporting NACS and signing on for Supercharger support. Volvo, the company that previously owned Polestar, also made the switch earlier this week. That followed similar moves by General Motors, Rivian, and Ford in recent weeks.

Tesla’s Superchargers were proprietary in nature until last year when the company started to offer up access via its NACS charger in an attempt to turn it into a standard of sorts. Despite the name, it wasn’t until companies like Polestar started to make the switch.
