Here’s iOS 16.3 beta 2 expected release date for iPhone and iPadOS 16.3 beta 2 for iPad.
Apple’s Christmas and New Year are now coming to a close which means that attentions are surely turning to what comes next. The company released iOS 16.3 beta 1 just before Christmas, so when can we expect the second beta to arrive?
Apple doesn’t tend to go too long between its beta releases although the Christmas and New Year celebrations obviously dictated when it could push out a new beta.
With that in mind we can likely expect the arrival of iOS 16.3 beta 2 within the next few days — likely on Tuesday, January 3 or Wednesday, January 4.
As for what the update will have to offer, there isn’t an awful lot to get too excited about at this point unless something new arrives in the future betas. The first beta only really added one thing of note, with Apple rolling out support for hardware security keys that can be used as part of a multi-factor security system to help keep your Apple ID safe and sound.
The idea is simple — a hardware security key can be configured and then required whenever you sign into your Apple ID. It’s a more secure option than the software keys generated by apps like Authy, and it’s a better option than the SMS codes that can be sent, too.
However, the requirement to carry around a hardware device could mean that using the previous software option will remain the best one for most people.
