Apple Testing Multiple Foldable iPhone Prototypes Amid Display Durability Concerns

Rumors of Apple’s intention to launch a folding iPhone have been circulating for years and while the likes of Samsung are well into the foldable market at this point, Apple has so far refused to join the fray.

That might not happen any time soon, either, with leaker @dylandkt saying that while Apple is testing foldables, it still has some concerns.

According to a series of tweets by the leaker, Apple is testing multiple kinds of foldable devices but it has concerns as to whether the market will have longevity.

It doesn’t want to enter the market right now and would instead prefer to hang fire and improve on any mistakes the competition is making. Apple is also reportedly concerned about the current technology being used on foldable phones.

While other manufactures are iterating on products that are seemingly in beta, Apple is keen on making sure that the design is not a regression from the current form factor of the iPhone. They are interested in playing the long game to see how the technology progresses.

A foldable iPhone is something that many of us are keen to see, but given the problems Samsung has with the Galaxy Fold, not to mention other companies like Motorola, Apple would rather see how things pan out before diving in at the deep end.

That’s a process Apple knows well, of course. Apple isn’t often the first to market with any new product. Instead, it prefers to see what other companies do wrong and then build on that — and so far it’s hard to argue with the results.
