Apple will reportedly use WiFi 6E when it launches the new iPhone 13 lineup this coming fall, according to a new report.
Multiple companies are already planning on working with Apple on the parts needed to make the new technology available in large numbers.
According to DigiTimes, companies are expecting significant revenue gains thanks to Apple’s business as well as a wider industry move towards the new WiFi 6E standard.
GaAs IC foundries Win Semiconductors and Advanced Wireless Semiconductor Company (AWSC), and GaAs epi-wafer supplier Visual Photonics Epitaxy Company (VPEC) are all poised to log significant revenue gains in the second half of 2021, buoyed by demand for the upcoming iPhones and Wi-Fi 6E related applications, according to industry sources.
WiFi 6E is an enhanced version of the existing WiFi 6 that is already supported by Apple devices. In fact, the iPhone 11 supported WiFi 6 back in 2019. The move to the enhanced version will reportedly allow for increased speeds and range, something that’s always welcome when you’re dealing with WiFi.
The same report also added further weight to recent reports that only the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will get the LiDAR Scanner that was once rumored to be coming to all versions of the new iPhone.
As new iPhones will continue to adopt 3D face ID sensors for general models and ToF LiDAR scanners for Pro series, the three GaAS players will also see their third-quarter revenues further bolstered by VCSEL chips demand for the sensing solutions, the sources said.
Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max in or around September with a release taking place a week or so after that announcement.
