The iPhone is great. When it was launched in 2007 it had a similar impact on the smartphone industry that the iPod had on the personal music space in 2001. It not only revolutionized smartphones, but it also raised the bar and made us, as consumers expect more from our mobile telephones.
So just what makes the iPhone so special that it seems to command consumer loyalty? Well I can only speak from my own personal experience. I have been a contract mobile telephone customer since the year 2000, regularly taking out contracts with networks lasting varying periods, generally between twelve and twenty four months. Since 2000 I have been contracted to use Blackberry, HTC, Samsung, Nokia and Sony Ericsson devices and one thing I noticed repetitively with all these handsets was that I would have a requirement to return them on a frequent basis. I would estimate that during the course of an average twelve month contact, I received at least three handset replacements due to various faults and issues caused by software malfunctions.
So how does the iPhone fare against the above experiences? Well, I have been an iPhone user since 2007 with the launch of the original device. In the last three years I have had the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and am currently using the iPhone 4. All of the handsets have been contracted to a network plan, and in the four years of iPhone ownership I have had to receive one device replacement for network related issues of which I am not even convinced was caused by the handset. So on a personal level, the iPhone is a winner due to the build quality and the reliability it has offered.
With that in mind, there is one issue that I have experience on all of the iPhone’s that I have owned, and I’m sure it is an issue which is experience by millions. Over the course of time, the Home button located at the bottom of the phone sometimes can become unresponsive and appear to have a lagged effect after being pressed. In the past I have put this down to being the main button on the device and being used consistently over time, I guess I assumed it was wear and tear.
It seems that a simple home button recalibration could be the answer to my minuscule problem. If you have ever experienced the same problem, then follow the simple steps below which will hopefully leave you with a more responsive, happy home button ready to obey your every command.
Step 1: Navigate to, and launch one of the stock applications on your iPhone. If you don’t already know, the stock apps are things like weather, YouTube, stocks, settings etc (any that come as part of iOS).
Step 2: When the app is launched, press and hold the Power button located at the top of the device until the ‘Slide to power off’ appears.
Step 3: Press and hold the iPhone home button. Keep the button depressed until the Slide to power off slider disappears and the application quits back to Springboard.
Step 4: Voila! Your home button is now re-calibrated and should be more responsive for you.
