Apple will reportedly resurrect the 12-inch MacBook, bringing it back as the first Mac to feature Apple silicon. That also means that we will see it before the end of this year.
Apple announced the transition to Apple silicon during the WWDC event in June, saying that it would get the first machine with its own chips out the door before the culmination of 2020.
Now, The China Times says that the 12-inch MacBook will be machine that brings Apple silicon to market.
According to Apple’s supply chain, Apple is expected to launch a Macbook with a 12-inch Retina Display at the end of this year, using its self-developed and designed A14X processor, with the development code of Tonga, supporting a USB Type-C interface and weighing less than 1 kilogram, because of the low-power advantage of the Arm-based processor. The Macbook battery lasts 15 to 20 hours. The A14X processor will also be used in the new generation iPad Pro tablet.
The use of Apple silicon will make the computer more performant than the previous Apple notebook, but the biggest improvement will be in the world of battery life. This new report claims as much as 20 hours of battery life will be offered up, all from a single charge. That’s something current Intel Macs simply can’t manage.
There’s no indication of when the new MacBook will arrive, but Apple’s own timeframe means we should see something happen before the end of 2020.
