When Apple announced iOS 13 there was a lot to get the teeth into which invariably meant that some things weren’t highlighted as much as others.
One pair of features that did get stage time was the new High-Key Mono effect as well as the ability to edit and control Portrait Lightning. And now both features are live in iOS 13 beta 2.
The second version of iOS 13’s beta release was seeded to developers yesterday and since then we’ve been learning of all the changes. There’s been quite a few since beta 1 and the arrival of these two photo-related features is most welcome.
The High-Key Mono effect is an addition to existing Portrait Mode effects that allows people add a new monochromatic effect to photos in the same way they would apply other effects. The result is a gorgeous monochromatic image that is similar to Stage Light Mono in some ways, but also completely different. It’s sure to be a very popular effect in iOS 13.
The most interesting new addition however is the arrival of Portrait Lighting Control, a new section added to the interface when editing an existing Portrait Mode image. The new interface allows the intensity of effects to be adjusted after the fact, using a slider to make alterations.
Both of these new features can be tested in iOS 13 beta 2. A public beta is expected to kick off in the coming weeks, with a public release likely towards the end of September.
