Apple has welcomed in the new year with a slew of software updates for its popular platform. Available with immediate effect, all registered Apple developers can download and consume beta 3 of watchOS 5.1.3, tvOS 12.1.3, and macOS 10.14.3.
After a period of refraining from pushing out any software into the development community due to the festive shutdown, Apple is now back in business and has returned to action as usual. This involves providing access to all changes, fixes, and improvements made to watchOS 5.1.3, tvOS 12.1.3, and macOS 10.14.3 to developers and registered testers for all compatible Apple Watch, Apple TV, and, of course, Mac hardware.
watchOS 5.1.3 beta 3: Behind iOS, watchOS is arguably Apple’s second most popular software platform. As Apple Watch goes from strength-to-strength, so does the firmware behind the hardware. This release is very much all about a continuation of the platform and acts as a minor point release in the grand scheme of things. With that in mind, watchOS 5.1.3 does not include any sweeping changes or feature additions but does include internal fixes and under-the-hood amendments.
This latest Apple Watch firmware can be downloaded via the accompanying Watch app for iOS on the connected iPhone which has a configuration profile for watchOS beta updates installed.
tvOS 12.1.3 beta 3: A lot of Apple TV owners feel like tvOS has gone off the boil recently, which is a little unfair to Apple. The Apple TV hardware does pretty much what it’s expected to do, which is a testament to the underlying power of tvOS. It’s also very difficult to continue to pump out new features for this type of platform. This latest release is very much an opportunity for Apple to fix bugs and make improvements where necessary.
Developers can grab this latest tvOS 12.1.1 beta by going to the Software Update option within the Settings app on the Apple TV ensuring that the “Get Public Beta Updates” is toggled to the on position.
macOS 10.14.3 beta 3: In all honesty, there is not a lot happening in this macOS 10.14.3 release. As the naming convention suggests, it’s all about progression and relatively minor internal bug fixes and improvements.
For those with a compatible Mac, macOS Mojave 10.14.3 can be downloaded directly from Apple’s Developer Center or installed via the Software Update of Mojave via System Preferences for those already running a beta.
