Electra, the latest jailbreak “toolkit” for 64-bit devices running iOS 11 through to iOS 11.1.2, which we told you about yesterday, has now been pushed live and is available to download with immediate effect.
Electra is the latest solution to be pushed into the jailbreak community which offers device liberation for Apple’s iPhone and iPads running iOS 11.0 through to iOS 11.1.2, which is where compatibility with the Ian Beer async_wake exploit ends.
Rather than being touted purely as a “jailbreak,” CoolStar, the developer behind the Electra creation, is marketing this particular offering as a “jailbreak toolkit,” with mention to the fact that it’s predominantly intended for developers and theme creators to test out their wares. This could be due to the fact that it comes with limitations that full jailbreak solutions don’t suffer from.
Perhaps most importantly, those who use Electra to liberate their iOS 11.x.x devices won’t find themselves with Cydia, DPKG, or APT included. This means that device owners cannot jump into Cydia, refresh packages, add new sources, and download their favorite tweaks and packages with a carefree attitude. It does also mean that the experience is fairly limited, with the average device owner finding themselves with an iPhone or iPad that is actually “jailbroken” but without the front-end experience that Cydia offers.
With that said, it does offer certain facilities that are appealing. Electra does come equipped with PreferenceLoader, a functional Safe Mode which protects the device if an erroneous or failing tweak is installed, as well as an uninstall script to remove Electra from the device altogether for those who want to remove traces of usage.
You can also install Anemone themes as well as tweaks that don’t rely on Cydia Substrate framework.
If you have been patiently sitting on iOS 11 through to iOS 11.1.2, waiting for something of this nature to come along from a name in the community that you actually trust implicitly, then Electra would appear to be the jailbreak that you have been waiting for. As previously mentioned, it does have its limitations but is now available to download, offered, at the time of writing, as beta 2 of the initial release.
You can grab it immediately from the Electra website at coolstar.org/electra/. Once in your possession, simply sideload the IPA to your compatible device using Cydia Impactor, and you should be good to go.
