One of the wonderful things about being jailbroken is having the ability to get certain experiences on certain versions of iOS which otherwise wouldn’t be available. Earlier this year we told you about a tweak called ControlCenterXI which was essentially a clone of the iOS 11 Control Center designed for jailbroken iOS 10-powered devices.
ControlCenterXI was good but it wasn’t a perfect representation of the iOS 11 Control Center. Now, to improve that, there is a new tweak called Maize, which claims to be a “pixel-perfect replica of the iOS 11 Control Center.”
For anyone who has stayed true to iOS 10 to maintain a jailbreak, or who just wanted to stay away from iOS 11 and happens to be jailbroken, Maize is a great example of what can be achieved on earlier versions of firmware when a developer really puts the effort in to try and port a new feature to an earlier version of Apple’s firmware. First and foremost, Maize is paying homage to the changes made to Control Center with iOS 11 by actually replicating that experience on a pixel-perfect basis. It’s also been replicated from a user-experience perspective, so animations and interactions should be identical.
In fact, the Maize information suggests that the developers have put “100’s of hours” into the development of Maize to ensure that it offers a “buttery smooth, bug-free experience.” We’re not sure that it will be entirely bug-free, but it’s wonderful to know that as much importance has been placed on the experience as the visuals and what is visible to the human eye. Too often developers in the jailbreak world concentrate on making things pretty and actually forgetting about how it functions.
Maize also extends beyond what iOS 11 offers by allowing a user to reorder any modules and get an almost unlimited combination of toggles when combined with other popular tweaks and installations like FlipSwitches and Polus.
ControlCenterXI was good, and definitely a great starting place for this type of work and experience, but you get the feeling that Maize takes things to that next level and really does the implementation of the iOS 11 Control Center proud. We’re sure if Apple didn’t detest the world of jailbreaking then even it would be impressed with this creation.
Maize would set you back a good $3.00 should you decide to grab the package from the BigBoss repository in Cydia.
