iOS 10.2.1 Jailbreak Tool Coming Soon?

We now have semi-official confirmation that a functioning iOS 10.2.1 jailbreak tool could be making its way into the public domain. A series of informative tweets from Australia-based Twitter account @Antique_Dev is leading the jailbreak community to believe that an iOS 10.2.1 jailbreak is most definitely on the immediate horizon.

It shouldn’t really come as a shock given the maturity of the jailbreak community, but it’s still rather startling how quickly the landscape changes and how quickly things progress in that particular space.

It was only a week or so ago that Adam Donenfeld of Zimperium actually released his ziVA exploits into the public domain ahead of his Hack in the Box presentation in Singapore. As expected, it seems that it was the final important piece of an intricate puzzle that allows an iOS 10.2.1 jailbreak to be produced.

One of the aforementioned tweets from @Antique_Dev informs that the use of triple_fetch has allowed the tool to escape the sandbox. The integration of ziVA provides the necessary kernel exploits and the yalu102 work from Luca Todesco offers the required KPP bypass to complete the iOS 10.2.1 jailbreak requirements. A couple of follow up tweets then suggested that a trial version of the jailbreak would be released “soon” when a working version of Cydia is in place, with a finalized version coming after that.

This is definitely great news for those looking for an iOS 10.2.1 jailbreak. Author of yalu102, Luca Todesco, has previously taken to Twitter to confirm that yalu102 would actually work on iOS 10.2.1 using the ziVA exploits with a small amount of work done to the source code to inject Donenfeld’s privilege escalation exploits.

However, if this new solution is put in place, and a new tool is created using the aforementioned components, then it would be a lot more user-friendly and wouldn’t actually require any heavy lifting or experimentation from those users who are desperate to get liberation on iOS 10.2.1.

As always, the waters are often quite murky in the world of jailbreaking, meaning that anything could happen, including any number of roadblocks or showstoppers. However, things do look positive at the moment and we will keep you updated on any progress.
