We have already been privy to a number of leaks which look to show off overarching external visuals of Apple’s upcoming iPhone 8, as well as some leaks which claim to certain accessories destined for use with the device, such as third-party protective cases.
The latest leak, which is now circulating through social media, dives deep into the internals of the handset, showing what is purported to be the first glimpse of the Apple A11 chip which is set to power the device upon launch.
It’s no secret that Apple’s 2017 iPhone lineup will ship with a new processor. Apple’s hardware may not massively change with every single release, but it’s generally accepted that Apple will bump up the processor specification on a 12-month rolling cycle. That could involve iterative changes or wholesale improvements which take the raw processing power of the device to the next level.
All of Apple’s next-generation devices, and not just iPhone 8, are expected to ship with this new A11 processor.
Apple’s new A11 processor is said to rely on the new 10-nanometer FinFET manufacturing process pioneered by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, or TSMC as more commonly known, with TSMC also operating as the solitary supplier of those A11 chips directly to Apple for use in all of the new devices. The supply of the new A11 chips come on the back of TSMC winning an exclusivity deal to supply Apple thanks to the company’s advanced engineering techniques and ability to produce processors with low-power consumption needs.
Apple wouldn’t work with TSMC or upgrade the processor in its flagship iPhone 8 if it wasn’t confident of producing significantly noticeable returns on improvement. That integration should mean that Apple’s iPhone 8 is noticeably faster with improved power efficiencies which should equate to a better battery life when those improvements work alongside the refinements made within iOS 11.
In addition to a new processor, Apple’s iPhone 8 is expected to benefit from an overhauled design, amendments to the rear-facing camera which allows for a comprehensive augmented reality experience, and a stunning edge-to-edge display which will essentially all-but remove the bezels from the device.
It’ll be interesting to see what other tidbits of information come out into the public domain between now and launch day.
