Rumor: iPhone 7 Features 4K Video Recording At 60FPS, A First For Any Smartphone

A Vietnamese publication has further raised excitement ahead of tomorrow’s Apple media event by claiming to have an actual used iPhone 7 unit in its possession.

We need to take this with a huge pinch of salt, predominantly because the writer of the article doesn’t actually share any media of the device, but the write-up goes through the hardware in intricate detail, confirming the majority of the information that has already been put into the public domain about Apple’s upcoming iPhone 7.

If we go down the path of believing that the site in question is actually in possession of an iPhone 7, then it brings to light some interesting information about the hardware that Apple will be announcing tomorrow. Firstly, it is being claimed that the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 – not the 5.5-inch Plus – model will ship with the ability to capture 4K video at 60 frames-per-second, a first for any phone! The current iPhone 6s hardware is obviously capable of 4K video recording, but that’s at a lower 30 frames-per-second. If true, it could be one reason why Apple has decided to bump the storage on the phone up to 256GB.

If you’ve ever captured 4K video on the iPhone 6s then you’ll understand the hardship that it brings from a storage perspective. Bumping that up to 60 frames-per-second essentially enhances that nightmare. For those that care about visuals and the availability of new aesthetics, the site also talks about the fact that the device will be offered in a new “Dark Black” finish with a matte-based rear and a non-chrome Apple logo.

Previous reports have suggested that Apple will be trying to appease those calling for entirely waterproof devices by introducing an IPX7 rating on the iPhone 7. The Vietnamese website once again ‘confirms’ that by suggesting that the SIM tray comes with a new rubber seal as part of its design.

The iPhone 7 is also said to come with a different Touch ID / Home button integration, one that is capacitive in nature rather than mechanical by design, but requires Force Touch to activate. Another bit of information emphasizes on the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack.

Once again, without actually having pictures or videos of the device to back these claims up it’s a little difficult to substantiate, but the information in the post does seem to corroborate a lot of what we have already heard about the upcoming iPhone.
