After releasing beta 2 of iOS 9.3.2, OS X 10.11.5, and watchOS 2.2.1 yesterday, Apple today has released beta 2 of tvOS 9.2.1 for Apple TV 4 users.
This latest seed, which is available to all developers, comes two weeks after the first tvOS 9.2.1 beta was made available, and approximately a month after Apple issued tvOS 9.2 to the general public immediately after the March “Let us loop you in” event keynote. tvOS is, of course, designed to run on Apple’s latest hardware success, the fourth-generation Apple TV, and continues the freight train progression of that platform.
It’s great news that Apple is continuing to push forward with tvOS as fast as it is with its other platforms, like iOS, watchOS and OS X. With that said, this latest release is the very definition of a minor 9.2.x update, and therefore doesn’t actually come with much to excite your average Apple TV 4 owner. There’s no immediate access to any outward-facing changes, and instead focuses on improving the under-the-hood engine of the set-top box, and more than likely eradicating any bugs that have been found since the release of tvOS 9.2 last month.
As always, if any new features are found to be hidden away in the deepest, darkest depths of this latest tvOS 9.2.1 beta 2, then we will of course update and bring you the intricate information as soon as it’s available. Until then, this update will serve as a simple housekeeping patch that will continue to make sure that the features packed into the tvOS 9.2 update from last month run as smoothly as possible.
That 9.2 update included the ability for developers to build third-party apps using the MapKit framework. Apple also provided Siri with additional power in the form of new language support in various territories. From an organizing perspective, Apple TV 4 owners can now arrange apps into groups using native folders, just like on an iPhone or iPad, thanks to tvOS 9.2. Productivity has also skyrocketed with the new-found support for third-party Bluetooth keyboards that make entering text a whole lot easier.
For those who own an Apple TV 4, installing this beta from scratch will require the use of a USB-C to USB-A cable, along with iTunes or Apple Configurator. Developers who already have the first beta release installed will be able to download this second seed as an over-the-air update.
