WhatsApp for iOS has just received a new update, which brings some much needed features to the number one IM app on the planet. More so, the Facebook-acquired service has also received a redesign of its Settings menu.
With the update rolling out right now, we take a closer look at what has changed within WhatsApp for iOS.
This time last month, WhatsApp was updated with initial 3D Touch support on iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus which not only brought in Quick Actions for the Home screen icon, but Peek and Pop support for in-chat content as well. As welcomed as that move was, the final touch which was missing, was Peek and Pop support for the conversation list; Well that changes now with this update. Hard pressing a conversation in the list will now allow you to quickly ‘Peek’ into a conversation just like you would Peek into a photo or link, and swipe up to bring additional options such as ‘Mark as unread’, ‘Mute’, ‘Archive Chat’, and ‘Delete Chat’.
Another feature, which seems to have been inspired from Facebook Messenger app, allows any web URL included in the chat to carry a preview or snippet of the webpage, and while there is no way to turn this off completely, you will still be able to remove the rich preview if you so wish to. It’s a pretty neat and useful addition.
Last but not least, heading to the Settings menu, you will notice a lot of colors. The entire menu on Settings page has been streamlined. All options now carry their own colorful icons making it quick and easy to identify an option you’re looking for. You will also notice the new Starred Messages option within Settings as well. All your favorite messages that have been ‘starred’ by you will now be available in one window here so you don’t have to go around looking for a particular message through a long conversation.
As was the case with the last update, the additional 3D Touch features are only applicable to 3D Touch supported devices (iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus) running iOS 9.1 or above.
