Tim Cook: Android-To-iPhone Switchers Are At An All-Time High

Speaking during Apple’s third quarter earnings call, Tim Cook informed the Apple loving masses that the company is seeing its highest ever number of individuals moving across from the Android operating system. In short, Apple CEO Cook is claiming that more people than ever are leaving the competing Android platform to move across to iPhone and iOS.

We all know that Android is extremely popular all over the globe. After all, it is the world’s most popular mobile operating system with millions of new registrations daily. However, Cook was keen to stress that the iPhone saw particular impressive growth amongst the Chinese market with an increased uptake of 87 percent. Considering how popular Android is in China, it’s highly like that that growing Chinese user-base accounts for a large number of those moving from Android to iOS to take advantage of Apple’s latest hardware and continuing OS improvements.

If you actually stop to break it down and think about why Apple is seeing a lot of users making the jump from Android it actually makes perfect sense. Apple’s internal decision to design and manufacturer a 4.7 and 5.5-inch smartphone with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus has undeniably appealed to many Android users who previously opted for Google’s OS largely due to the availability of multiple devices with larger screens. The availability of an iPhone that caters to those users is clearly providing too much appeal and causing a large number of Android fans to jump ship.

What’s potentially worrying for Apple is that certain analysts and industry insiders can’t see how the iPhone can expand and grow any further in a saturated market. Apple’s third quarter 47.5 million iPhones sold was actually a record for the Cupertino-based company, but still managed to disappoint as it didn’t meet the number of units predicted by analysts within Wall Street. Despite the continued growth of the iPhone, and the fact that it’s clearly starting to appeal more and more to Android fans, the company’s stock took a tumble immediately after the earnings were reported.

Tim Cook has paid reference a number of times to the different strategies used by Apple to attract users to the iPhone in certain regions. What’s clear is that Apple will continue to promote the smartphone however they see fit and will look to ensure that even more Android users switch to iOS when the iPhone 6s is launched later this year.
