According to a new report, Apple could be looking to launch its own Internet based TV service in the fourth quarter of 2015, with support for over 25 channels. A rather surprising but welcome news, head over the jump for further information on this purported development.
Not that there aren’t enough Internet based TV services – like Sling TV – but given the whole ecosystem based on the market that Apple currently enjoys with its iOS and OS X devices, an online TV service from the Cupertino based company will definitely be much sought-after by Apple users. Interestingly, the service will be debuting on all iOS devices in the start, ranging from the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and of course, the Apple TV.
The report suggests that Apple could charge between $30 to $40 for the service, with channels that will include the likes of ABC, CBS, FOX and many more.
The technology giant is in talks with programmers to offer a slimmed-down bundle of TV networks this fall, according to people familiar with the matter. The service would have about 25 channels, anchored by broadcasters such as ABC, CBS and Fox, and would be available on Apple devices such as the Apple TV.
Some of the more popular channels may not make the cut just yet, as is the case with NBC, where Apple is not engaging with NBCUniversal due to a rift with Comcast, which happens to be the parent company of NBCUniversal. Meanwhile, Apple is in talks with Disney as well, and given the fact that CEO Bob Iger is on the Apple board, we can be hopeful that the channel will be a part of the offering in September.
The service will reportedly be announced in June at WWDC 2015, and could go live by September this year, which should also see Apple announce the successor to the iPhone 6 as well.
The month of June meanwhile, should also see Apple announce an overhauled debut of the Beats Music service. Meanwhile, there have been reports suggesting that Apple is also working on a redesigned Apple TV 4 with a new and refreshed UI, and coupled with a new remote control as well. There’s a good chance that Apple will be launching the new set-top and its TV service in tandem.
