Google has a history of packing in small little surprises from time to time in some of its services. Android users wouldn’t be too new to the whole Easter Egg feature which Google hides away in its mobile platform, but did you know that it cleverly packed in a fun little gem in the Chrome browser? It’s a retro styled game if you were wondering.
We’ve all experienced a patchy Internet connection when out and about, be it your favorite coffee shop or whether you’re travelling, with occasional signal drops being the spoiler of the show. Well, the latest build of Google Chrome for desktop and Android now includes a slight sweetner in that dreaded "Unable to connect to the Internet" error page. Enter – T-Rex Runner, the 8-bit dinosaur running like its life depended on it only to be obstructed by obstacles. Your job… is to help it jump over them.
The T-Rex was originally being used to illustrate all of Chrome’s error pages, and with the Canary builds starting at version 39, Google’s dinosaur has come to life to help you pass some time before the Internet kicks back in. If you’re running the latest Chrome build on your Windows PC, Mac or Android smartphone, here’s how you can access the game.
Note: This is not available on iOS just yet, and it’s likely that it will make its way to Apple’s mobile platform sooner or later.
How To Play Endless T-Rex Runner In Chrome
Considering the game requires Chrome to direct you to the network error page, you will need to turn off your network, and try and access any Web page. Once you do that, the error page will be displayed with the T-Rex sitting atop the screen.
Ok, so what’s it doing there? Like me, you might mash down on the directional keypad on your keyboard, click on the little reptile, until you realize you just need to hit the ‘spacebar’ key and consequently find out you missed hitting the ‘up’ key. The T-Rex will spring to life and from there onwards it’s pretty simple really; hit the ‘up’ key or ‘spacebar’ to help the T-Rex jump over the obstacles (cacti).
Your high score progress will be saved and players will be greeted with a screeching blip once every 100 points.
So there you go, now Google has given us another reason to enjoy our time offline, even in the presence of a working Internet connection.
