As promised by the Pangu Team, the updated version of their Pangu8 utility is now available for download. Now sitting at version 1.1.0, the new and updated tool lets you jailbreak iOS 8 / 8.1 untethered, but with the added benefit of installing Cydia automatically from the get-go.
Similar to any other software, however, Pangu8’s initial launch wasn’t without its fair share of problems, with the most glaring one of them being the lack of an automated Cydia installation. At that time, we told you we’d keep you posted as the team behind the jailbreak fixed the issue and released an updated version. And now we’re here, with the great news for all jailbreakers out there.
The rest of the requirements and procedure remain pretty much the same, with the latest version of iTunes 12 being a prerequisite, along with a PC running Windows. You must also remove any passcode from your device prior to attempting the Pangu8 jailbreak, as well as turning off Find My iPhone if you have that enabled. The list of supported devices also remains the same as the initial version, which basically includes any and all devices that can run iOS 8 – 8.1.
The updated version of Pangu8 also brings with it full support for English, which is great news for those who love to play around with the tool more often than regular jailbreakers, so that’s that.
Here’s the full official changelog of 1.1.0
Bundle latest Cydia for iOS 8.
Optimize jailbreak process.
Fix an issue that may cause MobileSafari to crash on 64bit devices.
Fix an issue that causes iMessage/SMS to fail to send images.
Respring is not required anymore to make Substrate working.
Pangu APP now with some useful functions.
Add English support
You must also ensure that you have an iTunes restored version of iOS 8 / 8.1 running on your device. Thus, if you’d updated your device to iOS 8 from iOS 7 using the OTA update, you’ll need to do a fresh restore before proceeding with the jailbreak. That’s owing to some critical missing files in the OTA update that are required for the jailbreak to work correctly.
Pangu8 jailbreak surfaced at a time when a lot of people had almost given up on the jailbreak scenario, and having the option back is definitely welcome. The only thing that remains to be seen, is whether the Pangu team will keep this going in the future as well, or not. Time will tell, but we sure hope they do.
Also, if you’ve already jailbroken your device, then you can install Cydia directly from the Pangu app.
