As was the case with Mavericks last year in the run-up to its end user roll-out, Apple has just pushed a second Golden Master of OS X Yosemite 10.10, which is set to be approved for official release later on this month. It arrives alongside iOS 8.1 beta 2 download, which was seeded to developers just a short while ago, and although Apple has deemed it necessary to distribute OS X Yosemite GM 2.0 out to devs, it doesn’t appear that any noteworthy changes have been added.
Invariably, the Candidate Golden Master is the very final build in the development cycle, and more often than not, comprises the exact features of the very first public release. The fact that a second GM has been issued doesn’t mean a great deal in the broad scheme of things, but does suggest that Apple wanted to make one or two minor tweaks beneath the surface to ensure a refined performance right from the off.
If you’re tethered to the Apple Developer Program, you can pick up the second Golden Master via Software Update, and if you took the OS X Beta Seed route, then Public Beta 5 is also available for you to download and install on your Mac.
At this stage, even in the unlikely event that Apple does squeeze another pre-release in before the touted roll-out in around two weeks’ time, we’re not going to see any drastic alterations, since the company wouldn’t have sufficient time to correct any compatibility / functionality issues that tend to arise with major implementations.
On the week commencing October 20th, we’re expecting to see Yosemite’s official Mac App Store release, and as well as the small matter of iOS 8.1, Apple will reportedly unveil a new iPad Air, iPad mini, Retina iMac and refreshed Mac mini, in what looks set to be another busy month for the iPod maker.
Whether said event will be held that week, and indeed, if we’ll actually see all of those products at all, only time will tell. But if Apple does plan to make one or two big announcements in the next fortnight, it’s likely that we’ll hear more about it in the next few days, and should be stumble across any concrete evidence, we’ll have the details right here.
