The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission of Thailand has just approved two previously unheard iPhone models for sale in the country. Devices A1524 and A1286 were today given the go-ahead to retail in Thailand by the nation’s version of the U.S. FCC, and although it doesn’t tell us anything about the devices in question, it does lead us to believe that a 4.7- and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 is imminent.
The last we heard, the iPhone 6 would be announced on September 9th, and while it is reckoned that both of the aforementioned models will be unleashed at said showcasing, it’s also likely that the more sizeable, ‘phablet’ model will be subject to delay. Thus, while the 4.7-inch variant will probably make like most iPhone releases and hit shelves around 7-10 days after Tim Cook and co. take the wraps off it, the 5.5-inch edition could be pushed back to October or even later.
Still, the announcement from Thailand’s Secretary General indicates that two new devices will begin retailing in the country, as confirmed via a Twitter posting, and with all of the evidence pointing towards these two enlarged, redesigned handsets, let’s hope that the device’s we’ve seen depicted on numerous occasions turn out to be the real deal.
We’ve long since had a fair idea of the iPhone 6’s aesthetic, but with September now drawing ever nearer, we’re getting some interesting tidbits pertaining to the internal hardware. Notably, the improved A8 processor, which will still be a dual-core chip featuring 64-bit architecture, will be able to pump out in excess of 2.0 GHz per core, and with further reports that Apple will also bundle more RAM into its next humdinger, overall performance should be noticeably enhanced.
As ever with a new iPhone, Apple will almost certainly include a better camera into the bargain, with the handset’s rear-facing shooter having become something of an icon in recent years, and although we’ve yet to nail down the specs, it does appear that the ‘True Tone’ flash will be redesigned into a more compacted form factor.
All that remains now is the announcement, and with a good four weeks left to wait, it’s likely that there’ll be a few more twists and turns along the way. We’ll be following closely, covering iPhone 6-related revelations as and when, so stay tuned!
