Forrest Gump, which stars Hollywood legend Tom Hanks, is one of those movies that almost everybody has seen. But while we collectively appreciate the heart-warming storyline, it doesn’t strike us as the kind of flick that should be turned into a mobile game. Sure, most new movies are now arriving with a supplementary title – usually by Gameloft – to enhance the overall experience and sense of excitement, but Forrest Gump? Really?
The least surprising element of this game, aside from the fact that it’s an endless runner à la Temple Run, is that it’s called Run Forest Run. The phrase itself has become as famous as the movie, and your objective – as with all endless runners – is to avoid obstacles and dash as far as you can, picking up numerous coins and perks in the process.
Apart from the name, and the running, the game actually bears very little resemblance to the movie, and if you enjoyed Forrest Gump more than you did Temple Run et al, then you may want to skip this one. It doesn’t really make us feel as though we want to go ahead and relive the alluring storyline once more, but rather, appears a flagrant attempt to cash in on the name.
Authored by Genera Mobile, it’s free to download, although as ever, is flanked by those in-app purchases. There are many different options with varying price ranges too, starting with a "Stack of Coins" at $0.99 to a "Crate of Chocolates" for a whopping $69.99. All I’m saying, is that those chocolates had better be damned good.
With a few "unexpected Gump moments," it’s not completely detached from the original motion picture, but if you’re hoping to recapture that empathy you felt for Forrest the first time around, go and grab the DVD so as to avoid disappointment.
If, however, you’ve still got the bug for endless runners, this one’s for you, and below, we’ve provided you with the direct download link.
