Yesterday, we got a very good look at the 4K video output of the Galaxy S5 thanks to a leak from a guy in Mexico with some enviable early access, and today, we get to see how the camera holds up when taking stills thanks to some sample shots. Samsung has clearly put a lot of effort into significantly improving the rear-facing snapper of its newest flagship model, and as if the earlier video didn’t emphasize this point enough, these photos certainly do. Check them out after the break.
To leave prospective Galaxy S5 owners under no illusions as to the high standard of the new camera, Mobile-Review was generous enough, and has laid on a gallery of photos spanning numerous different settings. From low-lighting conditions, focus, abstract and fast-moving, there’s a whole bunch of different shots to look at.
Although cameras have long since been a key component of the smartphone experience, only recently have vendors decided to really up the ante, and although the likes of Nokia have been pushing hi-spec optics for years now, companies like Samsung, as well as Sony and HTC, have begun to follow suit.
If you’re counting megapixels, then the S5’s 16-megapixel sensor doesn’t look – on paper – a great deal of a bump on the 13-megapixel offering of its predecessor. But, as HTC has tried to preach to the consumer market, there’s much more to consider with regards to what actually makes a camera great, and on what we’ve seen in during the past week, the Galaxy S5’s shooter is indeed great.
As well as being taken in various different environments, the samples showcase some of the Galaxy S5’s myriad of camera modes, which, as Nokia has demonstrated in the past with its Pro Cam app, can be essential when trying to achieve that perfect shot. Here, we get to see the likes of Selective Focus, Panning Shot and Drama Shot in action, and if you’re looking for a new device that can offer a sound photographic experience this spring, the Galaxy S5 looks to have what you require in spades.
We’ll wait till we can play around with the camera ourselves before drawing any final conclusions, but in the meantime, check out the gallery of S5 samples below:
