It may be one of the biggest gaming franchises on the planet, but that doesn’t mean that Assassin’s Creed developer Ubisoft is resting on its laurels. With the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 launching so recently, Ubisoft today remind everyone that it is committed to mobile platforms too with the announcement of a new, standalone game for iOS and Android.
Titled "Assassin’s Creed: Pirates," the game will be available on both iOS and Android from December 5th and will cost just $5. According to a release on its website, Ubisoft says that the game will be played on in the Caribbean with gamers taking charge of Alonzo Batilia, a young and ambitious captain. By managing their crew and gaining new members as they go, gamers will increase their own abilities while battling it out on the high seas.
Upgrade your vessel with the massive bounty gathered from your prizes or collected from the many treasures you will find. Buy more cannons for your deck, a new rudder or better sails to take on bigger and more powerful enemies. And with each new crew member you recruit, you’ll acquire new perks and become a better captain!
Loosely linked to Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, this new mobile-only title takes the franchise to the ocean with gamers travelling from port to port while improving their ship’s arsenal and recruiting new crew members. The game world promises to be a large one too, with volcanic shores and paradise islands promised throughout.
It should all look lovely too, following the news that Ubisoft has developed a bespoke engine for the game with apparently breakthrough 3D visuals being displayed on both smartphones and tablets. We’d expect the level of fidelity to change depending on the device used though, obviously enough.
With Assassin’s Creed: Pirates players promised the chance to meet Blackbeard as they go about their quest we’re rather excited to see what the folks at Ubisoft have lined up for us. We’re big fans of the Assassin’s creed series of games anyway, and the promise of a mobile game that isn’t a console game shoehorned onto a touch screen does appeal to us. We’ll have to wait a couple of weeks to see how things pan out, but at $5 it has to be said that there isn’t a great deal to lose from at least giving the game a try.
And try it we will!
