The latest big Android release was definitely the Galaxy Note 3. Both big in the attention it drew and the sheer size of the device brought to market, Samsung’s new phablet is proving just as popular as the two versions that came before it. No big shocks there, then.
But what if you don’t want to lug around something the size of a small side table, and already own Samsung’s other popular smartphone in the shape of the Galaxy S4, but still want to be able to try out some of the apps that have made the Note 3 so popular?
Turns out that you’re actually in luck, after one XDA-Developers forum member released Galaxy S4 versions of the apps that he manages to extract from a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 system dump. Not all apps will work unfortunately, some will also require Android 4.3 on Galaxy S4 to work, and others are currently in the process of being tweaked in order to make the magic happen on the smaller screened device, but this is certainly a good start.
Popular Samsung apps like Magazine and My Files are in attendance, and KNOX is something that is being worked on, although that may take a little longer to get working according to the forum-goer.
The list of apps is indeed an impressive one, and if the Galaxy S4 is your smartphone of choice but you still like the look of some of the Note 3’s software, then this is a good place to look for a way to scratch that particular itch. How well these things work on that smaller screen though, remains to be seen. We’ve not tested this ourselves yet, but the XDA forum thread is going strong over here, so do give it a read if you’re at all interested in giving this a try.
The Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 are Samsung’s current top of the line smartphones, and while both arguably cater for slightly different audiences, there’s no doubt that there is indeed some overlap between the two. Both pack some considerable power inside, and neither are cheap for starters!
