So, the iPhone 5s is almost two weeks old, and if you’re lucky enough to have gotten your hands on one already, you may be wondering how exactly to make the most of the new features at your disposal. Perhaps you aren’t even aware of just how capable the new flagship device is. Whatever your personal circumstance may be, we’ve outline some quirky and interesting features that you’ll definitely want to be familiarizing yourself with, and you can check them out after the break!
Slo-Mo Video
The camera may still be an 8-megapixel affair, but as we’ve discussed at length in the past, there’s far more to a camera than the megapixel count alone. Indeed, as well as the dual-LED “True Tone” flash, which offers more realistic lighting effects when in darker conditions, the device also allows users to capture video in slow motion.
With capturing at 120 frames per second, the iPhone 5s offers true slow-motion capturing, and to get started, it’s fairly easy. Simply fire up the Camera app, find the subject you wish to record, slide across to the “Slo-Mo” option, and from there, you’ll be able to record at a much higher frame rate.
M7 Coprocessor
As well as impressing with the new 64-bit A7 processor, Apple has also thrown in the motion coprocessor, which allows certain tasks to run in the background in a more efficient manner. This will mean, of course, that your precious battery life will be saved as you continue to use your iPhone 5s, and to reap the benefits, we’ll have to wait for the app makers to make the necessary changes to their apps.
Strava Run is the very first app to take advantage of the coprocessor, so be sure to check out our feature on it and give it a download if you’re in ownership of the 5s. Apart from the aforementioned app, be sure to give Argus, WeatherRun and the newly released PedoMeter++ a try.
Touch ID – Use More Than 5 Fingers
Touch ID on iPhone 5s officially allows up to 5 fingerprint registrations. But there is actually a way to register more than 5 fingers, as YouTube user Note Suwanchote demonstrates in the video below:
Free iWork Suite With iPhoto And iMovie
Finally, the famed iWork suite is now absolutely free for new devices, and this includes Keynote, Numbers and Pages, as well as iPhoto and iMovie just for good measure. These are premium applications from Apple which, for many a year, have cost a few dollars to acquire.
